After the opening night on May 13 with the feminist French film La Tête Haute, the second day at the 68th Cannes was heated up by the blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road and

Mad Max is a big budget movie ($165 million) directed by Oscar-winning director George Miller and brings together a cast of famous Hollywood stars such as Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult.

Charlize Theron was praised for her role as an armless warrior in `Mad Max: Fury Road`.

Premiering at Cannes, Mad Max was warmly praised by European and American critics.

Robbie Collin of The Daily Telegraph gave the film 5/5 stars and praised the acting, script, makeup, risky scenes and the director’s visual style.

Charlize Theron’s bald woman was praised by critics as a highly feminist image.

Salma Hayek turns into a heart-eating sea monster queen in `Tale of Tales`.

While Mad Max is aimed at Cannes’ mass audience, the competing film shown on the evening of May 14 that also excited viewers was Tale of Tales (Italy).

Tale of Tales is a big-budget fantasy work, based on the fairy tale collection of the same name by writer Giambattista Basile.

The film has many nude and violent scenes as explained by director Matteo Garrone: `The film is about how desire becomes obsession, causing conflict.`

When released on the evening of May 14, Tale of Tales surprised viewers.

Tale of Tales was rated `perfect in every way` by The Guardian.

Opening from May 13, the 68th Cannes Film Festival will screen nearly 100 films, both in competition and out of competition, for 11 consecutive days.
