`I really like free kicks. I often practice free kicks, with the hope of receiving goals as rewards. I like free kicks more than penalties,` Fernandes said on BBC Sport.

Fernandes has been directly involved in more goals than any other Man Utd player since joining in January 2020, with 43 goals and 25 assists over 83 matches.

Since the 2017-2018 season, Fernandes has a penalty kick success rate of 96.2%, while Ronaldo’s figure is 83.9%.

Bruno Fernandes is Man Utd’s free kick specialist, and does not want to lose that role when Ronaldo arrives.

But as Fernandes shared, he wants to take direct free kicks that can score goals, and is willing to cede the penalty kick to Ronaldo.

Therefore, fans will rarely see Fernandes’s jumping penalty kick technique from this season, if the right to take penalties belongs to Ronaldo.

When asked about Ronaldo’s influence when returning to Man Utd, Fernandes said: `What Ronaldo has done in 15 years is amazing. Those are feats that only he or Lionel Messi can achieve.`

At the end of August, former midfielder Rio Ferdinand once commented that Fernandes is willing to share the scoring burden with Ronaldo, if that helps Man Utd end their thirst for titles that has lasted more than four years.

Fernandes letting Ronaldo share the scoring burden, according to Ferdinand, would be ceding the penalty kick.

Fernandes and Ronaldo are likely to play together for the first time at the club level, when Man Utd takes on Newcastle in round 4 of the Premier League on September 11.
