`If those people are executed without a chance to explain or speak out, we may never know the truth behind the murder,` said Hatice Cengiz, fiancee of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The statement was made by Cengiz one day after the Saudi prosecutor said that five people who murdered Khashoggi received the death penalty and three others involved were also sentenced to a total of 24 years in prison.

Arguing that the trial was invalid and unfair because it was held in secret and did not reveal the defendants’ motive for killing Khashoggi, Cengiz called on competent authorities around the world to criticize the above verdict and urgently

Fahrettin Altun, communications director of the Turkish President, yesterday also accused this sentence of not demonstrating justice, being `an insult to the intelligence of any fair observer`.

`International media must follow Khashoggi’s case until the truth is found. Those responsible must soon face justice,` Altun posted on Twitter yesterday.

The views of Cengiz and Turkish officials are in complete opposition to Salah Khashoggi, son of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Journalist Khashoggi left Saudi Arabia in 2017 and went into exile in Washington, USA due to fear of retaliation for frequently criticizing the government and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The group of assassins who attacked Khashoggi is believed to have come from Saudi Arabia’s security and intelligence forces.

Khashoggi’s death caused a wave of discontent around the world and all suspicions focused on Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

In April, a source told CNN that Khashoggi’s family received millions of dollars in cash and property compensation following his death.
