Accordingly, the second round of support package will be given to 3 groups, including: 344,000 freelance workers, each receiving 1.5 million VND, with a total cost of 501 billion VND.

The second group is 90,500 poor and near-poor households receiving 1.5 million VND each, for a total cost of 150 billion VND.

The third group is 170,000 poor and difficult workers living in boarding houses and in quarantine areas who are supported with 1.5 million VND each, a total of 254 billion VND.

Thus, the total approved second payment cost is about 140 billion VND more than the previous proposal due to increased support (from one million VND to 1.5 million VND) for the second and third groups.

Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City Le Minh Tan said that the City People’s Committee directs localities to deploy to wards, communes, hamlets, neighborhoods… to go to each motel and people’s house.

According to Mr. Tan, the second round of support packages does not differentiate between temporary or permanent residents.

This is the second time this year that Ho Chi Minh City has deployed a support package for people affected by Covid-19.

At the press conference, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Phan Van Mai stated the situation that, after a long period of social distancing, production and business activities have stagnated.

Mr. Mai affirmed that the city does not lack resources at this time, but the important point is how to bring resources to help each person.

`The support will not just stop at one week but will last for many weeks and months to come. We will mobilize all resources from the people of the city and the whole country, with the budget and reserve funds when necessary.

In a telegram requesting 19 southern provinces and cities to extend social distancing for another 14 days according to Directive 16 on July 31, the Prime Minister requested that localities must soon take measures to support life and health for people.
