(Dan Tri) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc represented Vietnam to take over the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020 from the Prime Minister of Thailand at the transfer ceremony taking place in Bangkok tonight, November 4.

The transfer ceremony of the rotating Chairmanship of ASEAN 2020 from Thailand to Vietnam took place in Bangkok tonight, November 4.

Attending the ceremony, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha officially handed over the 2020 ASEAN Chairman’s hammer to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

“I believe that Vietnam will accept the ASEAN Chairmanship from Thailand with pride and will realize ASEAN’s dream of promoting partnership for peace, stability, freedom, security and prosperity.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said: `In 2020, we hope to focus on strengthening the sustainable cohesion of ASEAN through strengthening solidarity, unity, and increasing economic links.`

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that Vietnam chose `Cohesive and Proactively Adaptive` as the theme of the ASEAN year 2020.

“These two elements interact and closely complement each other.

At the ceremony, the ASEAN 2020 logo and a short video introducing Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020 were shown.

The 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship Transfer Ceremony is an activity within the framework of the 35th ASEAN Summit and related summits, taking place from November 2-4 in Thailand.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established on August 8, 1967 and gradually developed into a comprehensive and close intergovernmental cooperation organization, including 10 Southeast Asian countries.

According to the rotation, Vietnam will take on the role of ASEAN Chairman in 2020, a pivotal year in implementing the plan to realize the ASEAN Vision 2025 and also the 25th anniversary of Vietnam joining ASEAN.
